Taiki is a precious little bean who is respectable, adorable, thoughtful, and charming in his own awkward way。 The way he pushes himself is not just because yes he wants to impress his crush, but also because of what he tells a friend: I've always loved badminton even before this crush (paraphrased)。 Such great and wonderful stuff right there!I also LOVE Chinatsu!! She is SO cute!! She's also such a fun and chill heroine that is fun to root for and totally hope we see a romance bloom between these two!The art is fantastic! If I can say an art style that I have really loved recently, it would be Blue Box! There is such a softness at just the right moment and then an intensity with action scenes that I really love the superb balance of capturing both。 How the mangaka draws these characters in general, is perfect as well。This is such a wonderful story and so so so glad that it is now released in English because I deeply love everything about this story! A great supporting cast of characters, a fantastic hero to follow, and the subtle fierceness of sports mixed with soft "romance" is everything。 Highly recommend!*(I received an e-ARC from the publisher。 All thoughts expressed are my own。)* 。。。more

I was pleasantly surprised to see this for Jump Comics, which is usually more known for action-oriented shows targeted to boys。 Blue Box takes the trope of "oh no, I am now living under the same roof as my crush" (but with parental supervision) and mixes it with the best of sports manga。 This is less about the relationship and more about both lead characters working towards their goals。 There's no fan service to cheapen the relationship with the crush or the potential rival (ok, there is a gymna I was pleasantly surprised to see this for Jump Comics, which is usually more known for action-oriented shows targeted to boys。 Blue Box takes the trope of "oh no, I am now living under the same roof as my crush" (but with parental supervision) and mixes it with the best of sports manga。 This is less about the relationship and more about both lead characters working towards their goals。 There's no fan service to cheapen the relationship with the crush or the potential rival (ok, there is a gymnast, but there are no gratuitous depictions of leotards)。 I am motivated to try doing crunches whenever I feel frustrated now。 I look forward to reading volume 2! This is SO cute! I'm glad to find a manga series that is sports, but also focuses on that fluffy falling in love storyline that is captured in those light-filled art panels usually found in shojo manga。 I will definitely be recommending this to the Maverick List。 This is SO cute! With a comfortable blend of romance and sports, this is a nice, gentle read。 While it does lean into some familiar story beats - such as the protagonist suddenly finding himself living with his crush when her family goes overseas and it turns out that her mom is his mom's friend even though he didn't know it - it does so with a facility that makes it very enjoyable to read。 The art is at its best when Taiki is playing badminton, but it's nice overall, if not a little generic, and really, this is With a comfortable blend of romance and sports, this is a nice, gentle read。 While it does lean into some familiar story beats - such as the protagonist suddenly finding himself living with his crush when her family goes overseas and it turns out that her mom is his mom's friend even though he didn't know it - it does so with a facility that makes it very enjoyable to read。 The art is at its best when Taiki is playing badminton, but it's nice overall, if not a little generic, and really, this is simply a nice story for a cozy day。 。。。more

Blue Box is a sports/romantic comedy manga created by Koji Miura, serialized in the infamous Weekly Shonen Jump。 It currently has 4 collected volumes。Inomata is a high school freshman who has a burning passion for badminton。 But that is not all。 He is also heads over heels in his senpai Chinatsu Kano。 But she isn’t in the same club he is, but a star of their high school basketball team。 He can’t help but look at her。 Always in awe of her beauty and dedication。 Luckily for his on cloud nine self, Blue Box is a sports/romantic comedy manga created by Koji Miura, serialized in the infamous Weekly Shonen Jump。 It currently has 4 collected volumes。Inomata is a high school freshman who has a burning passion for badminton。 But that is not all。 He is also heads over heels in his senpai Chinatsu Kano。 But she isn’t in the same club he is, but a star of their high school basketball team。 He can’t help but look at her。 Always in awe of her beauty and dedication。 Luckily for his on cloud nine self, he’s got a very good friend, also in the club, who tries to keep his feet grounded。 The friend will often remind him of how popular Kano really is, plus she’s older。 Every time Inomata starts to float in his lovey-dovely ways, the friend pulls him back down。 He also has another friend, Hina, who teases him relentlessly。 Most of the humor in the first volume comes from his reactions or overreactions to what Hina teases him about。 But Inomata keeps crashing into her, every now and then。 Eventually they get to know each other。 He confesses that she inspired him and made him want to aim higher as a badminton player。 That was last year。 After Kano’s team lost their final game, and failed to go to the nationals, she went back to the gym and keep shooting free throws, baby hooks, fade aways, step backs and catch and shoot threes for hours。 It is in that moment that he fell for her。 She’s teased him that he should join basketball, because of his reflexes and such。 But he admits that team sports really aren’t his thing。 He likes the pressure of individual sports, as well as the responsibility。 He wants to be the smith of his own fortune of sorts。 They seem to be going on grand, but than destiny intervenes。 Kano and her family will move to the States in March。 Inomata feels sad and lost。 He vows to make the nationals and step on the same stage with her。 But then the biggest twist happens! She will not move, but stay! And not only that, but she will be living with his family。 You see, their mothers use to play basketball together, and are still very close apparently。 After a bunch of serious overreactions and dumb conclusions on his part, Kano confesses that it was Inomata who inspired her to stay。 His newfound passion, will to improve and constant hard work to reach the nationals as a freshman really flipped a switch in her brain。 That’s why she is set on finally making the nationals with her basketball team。 Later on, we get a bit of backstory about Hina。 She’s from a gymnastics family, and has a superb, quick-witted sense of humor。 There are frames and shots in the manga, along with her tease behavior, that make it seem like she has feelings for Inomata。 Kano even confuses her for Inomata’s girlfriend。 But, non the less, just like Kano and Inomata, Hina is the star of her rhythmic gymnastics team and is working extra hard to both make the nationals and prove herself worthy of her ancestors。What makes this fun and sweet blend of sports and romcom manga work is the sweet little moments that the two leads share。 There is a sense that they both keep stepping, inching even, slowly towards each other。 They share these little moments of genuine intimacy, closeness, understanding and mutual recognition of the one in the other that make it real, make it believable, make you want to cheer and stan for the two of them。 There is a relatable realism to them。 They are two kids who are going through these emotions for the first time。 You can see it in their hesitancy and awkwardness, not that ever goes away when you are finally together with someone you really fancy。 It is a delightful blend of connecting with others and pursuing your own high ambitions。The drawing is flawless。 The panels that depict the moments I just mentioned are the most memorable ones。 The artist draws them big, clear, with expressive looks and emotions。 The sports scenes look dynamic。 You can sense how much effort it asks out of the people doing the sports, as well as the level of focus and intensity。 。。。more

LETS GO。。。the only manga series I'm currently reading every week。This manga is just wonderful, in the scale of manga romances (which I admit, isn't the highest bar--but this blows it away)。 Although I've watched quite a few kdramas where I might like the romance more, manga, I can't say much for。 Immaculate, this one。 LETS GO。。。the only manga series I'm currently reading every week。This manga is just wonderful, in the scale of manga romances (which I admit, isn't the highest bar--but this blows it away)。 Although I've watched quite a few kdramas where I might like the romance more, manga, I can't say much for。 Immaculate, this one。 。。。more

This is a sweet start to a wholesome romance series。 I wouldn't say I'm attached to the main couple, but I think they're pretty cute and am rooting for their success。 The artwork strikes balances of cutesy, shoujo-esque for the more slice-of-life and romantic scenes and harsher lines and bold art for the sports scenes。 The tone is consistent and story moves at a nice pace。 I'm looking forward to reading more。 This is a sweet start to a wholesome romance series。 I wouldn't say I'm attached to the main couple, but I think they're pretty cute and am rooting for their success。 The artwork strikes balances of cutesy, shoujo-esque for the more slice-of-life and romantic scenes and harsher lines and bold art for the sports scenes。 The tone is consistent and story moves at a nice pace。 I'm looking forward to reading more。 。。。more

This is another series I am reading on Shonen Jump as it comes out。 There are 11 chapters so far。 This is a decent series so far, it's a sports romance so I am not as invested as I could be, but Miura makes the characters believable。 They all seam well rounded so far, and I do like the art as well, it's not overly cutsey and it's not overly shonen either, striking a good balance。 I look forward to watching these characters grow as well。 This is another series I am reading on Shonen Jump as it comes out。 There are 11 chapters so far。 This is a decent series so far, it's a sports romance so I am not as invested as I could be, but Miura makes the characters believable。 They all seam well rounded so far, and I do like the art as well, it's not overly cutsey and it's not overly shonen either, striking a good balance。 I look forward to watching these characters grow as well。 。。。more
